Elle fait suite aux \u00e9v\u00e8nements d\u00e9crit dans <cite lang=\"en\">Harlequin<\/cite> et surtout la trilogie du <cite>C\u0153ur de Dragon<\/cite> ainsi que <cite lang=\"en\">Portfolio of a Dragon<\/cite>.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">They sit for a few minutes in uneasy silence. Around them the lives of those who\u2019d chosen to visit the park this day unfold, all but oblivious to the two on the bench. Any other reaction would be a shock to both as neither appears to the unschooled as they actually are. Today they appear as two of the homeless, an ork and a dwarf, which is almost as far from the truth as one can get and still retain a degree of sanity.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork, aged and dark skinned, finally turns his head slightly and regards the other through what seems to be the misty gray of partial cataracts. The dwarf, light skinned and long unshaven, does not move from staring at the stagnant pond they face.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0So,\u00a0\u00bb the ork finally says, his tone low and careful, \u00ab\u00a0did you kill him?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The dwarf shifts his gaze to meet the other\u2019s. He shakes his head. \u00ab\u00a0No. Did you?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0No.\u00a0\u00bb The dark ork sighs.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The other nods. \u00ab\u00a0I could not convince myself one way or the other as to your guilt.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Me either.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The dwarf raises a bushy eyebrow. \u00ab\u00a0As usual, I do not follow your drift.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The other nods again. \u00ab\u00a0Exactly so.\u00a0\u00bb he replies. \u00ab\u00a0I meant that there were times where I had to consciously think about whether or not I had killed him myself or arranged to have it done. I hadn\u2019t, but could have, and perhaps should have, hence my confusion.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Many believe you had a hand in it.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Of course they do. Let them.\u00a0\u00bb The ork says. \u00ab\u00a0It is a dark and terrible thing I have done.\u00a0\u00bb he adds, chuckling.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Then who?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">There is a long silence between them.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Blood and tears,\u00a0\u00bb the ork says finally, \u00ab\u00a0the list is disquietingly short.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The other nods. \u00ab\u00a0The years slip behind us like a soft breeze, carrying away friend and foe alike, leaving us only the rumor of their passing.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork snorts, looks away and stares at the pond. \u00ab\u00a0You\u2019re in a better place to know; anyone else show up?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">Shaking his head, the dwarf says: \u00ab\u00a0No. Of course, we always hear rumors. None have proven true.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0I sometimes get odd sensations that there are others out there, but this is the first Awakening I\u2019ve seen. It could be normal.\u00a0\u00bb the ork tells him.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Perhaps.\u00a0\u00bb The dwarf pauses a moment, then decides. \u00ab\u00a0Lofwyr all but outright said that he believes there to be another dragon.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork tilts his head slightly. \u00ab\u00a0Really? Any clue?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0No. He could have been speaking of the resurrected Alamais, but somehow I doubt it.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork nods again.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0I\u2019d have thought it more likely that many of the others who\u2019d survived would have talked to you before any of the Courts,\u00a0\u00bb the dwarf says.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork shrugs. \u00ab\u00a0Maybe.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0So you are saying that you do not know of any others that I do not.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork turns his head and raises an eyebrow slightly. \u00ab\u00a0How the frag can I say that? But, since we are being up front I will say that to the best of my knowledge I do not know of anyone else that you don\u2019t also know about.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">Looking away, the dwarf nods and then falls silent for a moment.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0So, since we are here,\u00a0\u00bb the dwarf finally asks, keeping his tone as neutral as he can, \u00ab\u00a0how is my daughter?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The appearance of the dark skinned ork shifts without warning, slipping into a smear of color and shape as his eyes widen slightly in surprise. He turns his head very slowly as he regains his composure. \u00ab\u00a0Excuse me?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">A slight grin appears barely visible beneath the other\u2019s matted white hair. \u00ab\u00a0Of course I knew, you twit. I am not as completely self absorbed as you like to believe.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0No, I suppose you couldn\u2019t be\u2026\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0How is she? I presume you are training her? Is she a quick study?\u00a0\u00bb There is a surprising eagerness in his eyes.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Yes, yes she is. I wasn\u2019t sure at first, but she catches on quickly.\u00a0\u00bb the other tells him. \u00ab\u00a0She has an intriguing perspective that at times is a gross hindrance but at other times is damn practical.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Good.\u00a0\u00bb There is another long pause. \u00ab\u00a0Does she know?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Know what?\u00a0\u00bb the ork asks as innocently as he can.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0You know exactly what I mean you caustic goat!\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">This time the ork smiles. \u00ab\u00a0No. She doesn\u2019t.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Good.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Good? Good? Not too long ago you\u2019d have tried to force me to eat bone worms for less!\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0True, but she needs to find her own way.\u00a0\u00bb the dwarf says. \u00ab\u00a0Though she is of me, she is not me. Keeping her close by would only force her to be something she is not.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Yea,\u00a0\u00bb the ork says, \u00ab\u00a0Glasgian really is a shit, isn\u2019t he?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0I said nothing of the kind.\u00a0\u00bb the dwarf retorts. \u00ab\u00a0But yes, he is a proof of my point.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork nods again. \u00ab\u00a0Still, I have to say I\u2019m surprised that you\u2019re not more pissed off at me. I wasn\u2019t sure if your asking for this face to face was about daughter or dragon.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Which concerned you more?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Daughter.\u00a0\u00bb The ork tells him after a moment. \u00ab\u00a0You were never particularly fond of the dragon.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0I never had any quarrel with the dragon. It was the motion of his mouth I thought we could all do without.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0I\u2019m with you there.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0As for my daughter,\u00a0\u00bb the dwarf says slowly, \u00ab\u00a0you and I have not seen eye to eye in quite some time. Nor do I suspect we will truly ever.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0We agree about the dragon.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Point. And if you\u2019ll let me continue, though we do not agree, and though I have and will continue to describe you as an irrational, inconsiderate, unaccomodating, argumentative, slacker-\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Slacker?\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Be quiet. It was the only word I could think of \u2013 who conveniently hides behind an all-too-literal mask, I, unlike many, have a long memory.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork looks away again.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0I have no concerns for the well-being of my daughter under your tutelage or care.\u00a0\u00bb the dwarf finishes, and then lets the moment hang. \u00ab\u00a0Getting back to the dragon: Have you found Excalibur yet?\u00a0\u00bb he continues.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">Snorting, the ork turns back toward him. \u00ab\u00a0You know better than I that there ain\u2019t no such thing.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Literally, no. But as the years pass such literalness becomes less and less relevant. And we both know what he truly meant.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork nods again. \u00ab\u00a0The armor still fits.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">This time the dwarf chuckles. \u00ab\u00a0I\u2019m shocked.\u00a0\u00bb he says, and then stands. \u00ab\u00a0I have to go. There is a Council meeting tonight I cannot miss.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0Don\u2019t worry, I\u2019m sure they\u2019ll deal you in whenever you get there.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The dwarf snorts and turns to begin walking away.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">\u00ab\u00a0But you know,\u00a0\u00bb the ork says, and the other pauses to listen, \u00ab\u00a0we didn\u2019t decide who did kill the dragon.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The dwarf nods. \u00ab\u00a0No, we didn\u2019t,\u00a0\u00bb he says. \u00ab\u00a0And if you can remember how, I would suggest you pray that it was someone, or something, we know.\u00a0\u00bb He turns, steps, and begins to fade away as if engulfed by fog. \u00ab\u00a0Because if it is not\u2026\u00a0\u00bb And he is gone.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">The ork sits on the bench as the overcast light slowly fades from the park. Every once in a while he drinks from the amber bottle wrapped in brown paper he keeps in his coat pocket. Its taste is bitter.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">Everyone ignores him. He knows it will not last.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"aConclusion\" style=\"text-align: center\">Ehran et Harlequin se rencontrent donc en terrain neutre, sans rapport de force puisque le dernier d\u00e9fi s\u2019est sold\u00e9 par un pat (bien qu\u2019Harlequin ait gagn\u00e9 la fille d\u2019Ehran, le d\u00e9fi s\u2019est sold\u00e9 par un r\u00e9sultat neutre selon les r\u00e8gles).
